About

Hello! My name is Griffin Bassett, and I recently graduated from Boston College with a degree in International Studies. I am particularly interested in linguistics and geography; my primary research area is sociolinguistics, or the intersection between language and society. I also make music and write poetry in my spare time!

The bulk of my work can be found on TikTok and Instagram, where I publish short-form educational content about linguistics and geography. Some of my favorite videos have been about why Dutch sounds “funny” to English speakers; how Austronesian alignment works in Tagalog; and the history of the suffix -ly. You can find more of my videos and writing on my Portfolio.

Right now, I work at a museum in Chicago, and I am angling to enter a graduate program in sociolinguistics next fall. If you are interested in my work or in linguistics in general, feel free to reach out to me on my Contact page above!
